CJB Ratings

Basketball schedules are now up. No ratings are available until after the first games have been played. In addition, I do something slightly different than other ratings systems. I do not assign a rating to a team, not even a zero one, until after they've played. This year, almost all the teams play the first weekend, so that won't be too much of a problem. But if you don't see your team on the ratings list, it's because they haven't played yet.

I've made quite a few improvements over the last two weeks to the projection algorithm for football. The results should be significantly better. I also started working on some code to minimize ranking violations in the Win ratings (see the FAQ if that term is unfamiliar), and discovered that it's a bit harder than I thought. I came up with some basic code that gets rid of about 15% of the RVs. I expected to do better, but maybe that's the best I can do for now. I'll continue to tinker with it a bit more before publishing that change to the site. Note that since the Composite ratings depend on the Win ratings, that there will be some movement in Composite due to this. That's a good thing. :)
